Our educators

Staying with you until you can do it yourself.

Teaching Japanese well is the baseline. What we actually ask of our teachers is to keep going until the student can do it alone. We call that being a facilitator rather than a lecturer.

Give someone the answer and today's problem is solved.
But the next time it happens, they still can't move.

Give the question. Wait through the silence. Connect them outward. Ask for something slightly too hard. Make them reflect. Then prepare to step back.
Not to lengthen a job description — so that the student changes.

Language support

You can talk to us in your own language.

While your Japanese is still finding its feet, the important conversations are better held in your own language. Among our full-time staff, five speak English, three Chinese, two Vietnamese and one Nepali.

The team behind your daily life here.

They are a specialist team that makes student life work: residence procedures, setting up daily life, health, pathways, contact with your family. If one of those breaks down, you cannot concentrate on studying.

ICT

An ICT lead supports both study and communication.

Learning materials run on tablets. Online contact before you arrive, information sharing with families and partner organisations, and the recording of study and attendance are all handled by a designated person — as part of the support itself, not as a nice extra.

We build the door in — and stay for what comes after.

Around the world there are young people who want to learn Japanese and take on a challenge in Japan. Our job is to build the door in — and then not to leave them alone: through arrival, study, daily life and their next step. They learn in Fukui, they grow, and they go on to their own futures. That is what this school exists for.
