02 The education itself
What your time here contains.
- Japanese classes Monday to Friday, four periods a day (morning or afternoon shift)
- Level-based classes, assigned by a placement test after you arrive
- Preparation for JLPT, EJU and entrance examinations
- Classes on how daily life and local rules work in Japan
- Inquiry and project work (question → plan → act → reflect → improve)
- Field study, cultural experience, community activity

03 People and place
Who teaches you, and where you live.
Fifteen teachers
Graduate degrees in linguistics and Japanese language education, 420-hour training courses, national qualifications. Every one of them is on this site, with their face and background.
Staff
Residence, daily life, health and pathways — each with a named person responsible, and support in your own language.
Housing and community
16 houses across Fukui City, furnished and equipped. School, shops and the neighbourhood are all within easy reach.
04 Support, and after
Enrolment is the start, not the finish.
Airport pick-up, setting up your life, residence and administrative procedures, part-time work kept within the law, health and personal consultation, disaster preparedness, pathway guidance, contact with your family and partner organisation — and by graduation, the ability to choose your own next step.

05 Cost
We don't hide the price.
This is what you pay in the first year of the two-year pathway course starting in 2027. Twelve months of accommodation for the first year is included in ④ below.

What ② covers, as stated in the admissions guide: inbound support during enrolment / two health checks during enrolment / personal liability insurance during enrolment / purchase of a bicycle / transfer from the airport to the school. The figure is ¥178,000 before consumption tax. Individual amounts are listed in the admissions guide.

How payment works
- One year is normally paid in full before enrolment
- We do not offer instalment payment
- Due after your Certificate of Eligibility is issued, by the date specified
- Refunds follow the admissions guide and the tuition regulations

FLA's own study-support scheme
So that effort leads to the next challenge.
We look at more than academic results. Attendance, day-to-day conduct, inquiry work, activities outside class and involvement in the local community all count.
Students who meet the school's criteria receive 50% or 30% of the fee for their application to extend their period of stay. This is a support scheme run by FLA itself.

This is not available to every student. Eligibility, the rate and the amount covered are decided under the school's own regulations, which are explained in full after enrolment.
We introduced it so that students who take their studies, their daily life and their place in the community seriously find the next step a little easier to take.
Note: this scheme starts with eligible applications received on or after 1 October 2026, the date from which the statutory fee for extending a period of stay is revised (Immigration Services Agency of Japan).
Note: this is separate from any statutory reduction or waiver of that fee. Whether you qualify for a statutory reduction is a matter for the Immigration Services Agency.
