Home / Why FLA
Learn Japanese.
Build a future you can choose.
Choosing where to study means choosing the environment that shapes what comes next.
Why FLA
Japanese class, and the community around it.
At FLA, Japanese study connects with learning in Fukui itself. We want the Japanese you build in class to be used where other people are listening — so you can think, work with others and choose your own next step.
Beyond the classroom
Where the Japanese you learn gets used.
Activities currently described on this site.
Meet people, ask, present
Through company partnerships and factory visits, students see where things are made and hear directly from the people who make them. They research what they saw, prepare it and present it.
From being taught to passing it on
Second-year students plan, prepare and run the events that welcome first-year students. In collaborative classes with other schools, students sometimes take the teaching role.
Daily Japanese is the foundation
Classes run Monday to Friday, four periods a day. A placement test at entry sets level-based classes, building Japanese for further study and for daily life.
All of the above is described on Education. Activities may change from year to year.
School records
Further study is one step, not the last one.
Only figures confirmed in our own records, and only where no individual can be identified.
- 2024-entry cohort: 165 students covered
- 162 graduated (3 other completers)
- 163 progressed to further study (vocational colleges, universities and similar)
- 2 returned home
Based on the school's progression records as of March 2026. "Progressed" refers to progression status. This is a record of a past cohort. FLA does not guarantee any individual's admission, employment, residence status or income. See Student Growth for the breakdown.
Beyond further study: a place to return to, a future to choose.
Some FLA graduates study at vocational colleges or universities in other regions of Japan, including Kanto and Kansai, and later return to Fukui to work. Among our alumni are people who have built long-term careers with local companies and taken on supervisory or management roles. This account is based on the principal’s knowledge of alumni through continued contact.
What matters to us is the life that continues after the next school has been chosen. Meeting local people, using Japanese in society and finding a role in a community can make Fukui a place graduates choose to return to.
Returning to Fukui is one possible path. Our educational goal is the ability to think and choose a future independently, whether in Japan, a home country or elsewhere. Japanese language education is the foundation.
Preparation and support
Independence is the goal, so preparation matters.
A first time abroad raises real questions: housing, procedures, health, tuition and living costs. Please plan with your family, and with any institution already advising you, rather than carrying it alone.
A funding plan should not assume that part-time work in Japan will cover tuition and living costs.
Start with what you want to learn.
Your current Japanese, what you are considering next, your family's questions — including the parts you have not decided yet.
